How to Complete a Desert Challenge + Secret Gift Fortnite Season 3

The new Fortnite Season 3 adds the Desert Challenges, a new objective during the game that you can achieve and win a secret gift as a reward.

The desert challenge is obtained from desert beacons that are located in different locations around the map. There are 4 in total that are located in specific locations:

- The 1st on the side of Rebel Roost
- The 2 right of Classy Courts
- The 3rd below Reckless Railways
- The 4th below Brutal Beachhead, on the island south of the map

The best location for the desert tag is in the center of the map below Reckless. Why? Because it is not on the edge, so we can take it later in the game. It will also be more demanded by the other players, you must be careful not to get eliminated.


Once you have found the desert tag, you can get the desert challenge by interacting with the iron pylon that carries a bumper. All tags are the same, no matter where you go.

The tags are visible, you will not struggle to find them. It will still be necessary to be at the correct location of the ping specified on the map shown in the previous point.

By interacting with the tag, you will see the acceptance conditions, that is to say the malus that will be on you during the whole game. This will cause you to lose 10 life points when you pick up an object or weapon from the ground.

A bonus awaits you with this challenge: you will earn more XP for any action during the game, which is not negligible and even quite interesting. Later in the guide, I will give you the technique to finish the challenge without taking any damage.

When you are going to accept the contract, be careful: you will be motionless for a few seconds. The opposing players, knowing more and more the locations of the desert beacons, will be a danger for you. Quick tip: eliminate all opponents around the area before interacting with it.

Once you accept the desert challenge, you will have to continue the game with the token that appears above your weapons/constructions and in your inventory at the top. As long as you have this icon, it means that the challenge is active and the malus also, so be careful of the risk of dying because of it.


You can’t throw the token to the ground by clicking on it, it is locked in your inventory. If you want to remove it, at the end of the guide I show you how to remove it so you can continue your game normally.


Now, how do you get the desert challenge to finish easily? In fact, it’s extremely simple with the right method. First thing before you accept it: be ready for the rest of the game, that is to say be 100% shield, with good weapons, etc. If you have not prepared yourself before picking up the challenge, you will have to juggle with the loss of life points during a large part of your game.


Now you are ready and have accepted the desert challenge. You will play your game while having a completely modified vehicle with anti-bullet tires, turret, stone-shovels, etc. Thanks to this, you will become less easily killed. If you need to pick up objects, this may not be a problem, you will have to regenerate yourself with cacti, colas or other.


You arrive at the end of the game and to achieve the goal, you will have to make a top 1. So, always with our overequipped car, we are not going to take any risks: we stand on a point high and wait for the end of the game without taking any risk. As soon as there is a fight, you take the opportunity to kill the second opponent opportunistic.

When you have made a top 1 with the token on you, you will have completed the desert challenge. By doing this, you also get the secret coating for free on Fortnite Season 3.

You can cancel the challenge if you wish. To do so, you will have to pay 500 gold bars. It’s true that gold bars are easily recovered in Fortnite Season 3, but at this point, you might as well leave the game and restart a new one instead of spending so many bars.


WARNING: You can drop a weapon by picking up something else, which will cause you to lose 10 life (HP). Then, by picking up the weapon you dropped, you will lose another 10 HP. If the loot is mixed up and you hurry, you can make a mistake again. All this to say that you really have to be careful when you have the challenge, because it can easily make you lose 50 PV or more.


This new special challenge added for the new season brings a new experience with more difficulty for players who find the games redundant and too simple. You can have the desert challenge in each game if you wish, which will impose a significant malus to be careful. But it can also be a good way to boost the experience gained in the game.


To go back to the gift you are going to get, it is a free coating that is only obtained when you make a Top 1 with the desert challenge. The item is not specified anywhere in the game, making it secret. It will disappear at the end of Fortnite Season 3.
